Bridging course.

North Vista Secondary School implemented a scheme called the Bridging Course. Generally, it is a period of time where students still have to come back to school to learn new chapters of different subjects to prepare them for a notch level, all the way till 19 November; specially meant for 3Es, 3NAs and 4NAs.

Sensible people will see the Bridging Course as a benefit, as well as a bonus because not every school has such a similar scheme. Immature people will think that it is a waste of time, unless they are preparing to leave the school or to other institutions. Nevertheless, everyone will have to go for the Bridging Course. (Especially the Sec 4NAs)

In the students point of view (Sec 4NAs), they were exasperated because the scheme was prolonged, from 2 weeks to around 1 month. Worse still, the school did not ask for their opinions and suggestions. The school also threatened (in this case, threaten is a better word than warn) the students that if they did not turned up for the Bridging Course, they would conclude that they are not interested in coming back for Secondary 5. The school will refuse to admit the students back to Secondary 5 even if they pass their 'N' levels or had a change of mind.

In my point of view, even though the Bridging Course was implemented for the benefit of us, they should ask for our opinions instead of making their own decisions. I felt it was incorrect for the school to force the Secondary 4NAs to come back even if they don't wish to, because if they don't had the right mentality and attitude, they may not make it in 'N' levels, much less 'O' levels.

As the saying goes "Once bitten, twice shy." will apply. If they are retained or fail their exams, they will regret it and excogitate at a point of time. The school had done their best but should not force the students with their tactics. In fact, they used it on lower secondary students by threatening the students not to give back their report books if they do not pay the money that they should (Complusory). Though effective, I see it as an odious, disgusting and harsh way. The school should really find better ways and should review the methods that they use.

Still, students cannot challenge the school's authority. We would have to see the Bridging Course as a benefit for us.

(With that, this post is based on my honest opinions without any favouritism and is NOT liable for anything.)
